A Dahlia Collection Rooted in Care

Tried, True & Carefully Grown

The first selection of dahlias I have in the shop are favourites I’ve been growing for many years. They are prolific bloomers on strong, sturdy plants. They also create multiple tubers during the summer and store well over the winter. I’ve encountered some varieties that don’t produce many tubers and are quite finicky about overwintering.

I’ll be adding more dahlias to my collection each year. It will take time, as great care must be taken to protect my existing collection from Dahlia Mosaic Virus, Leafy Gall, and Crown Gall. There is no cure for these contagious conditions. Sadly, infected plants must be thrown away off-site. I use careful sanitation practices and only purchase new varieties from Canadian flower farmers.

The dahlias you see for sale in big box stores are imported from overseas, where mechanical harvesting has led to a serious outbreak, with many infected plants packaged and shipped to Canada. All new introductions I purchase are grown in isolation for two years as a precaution.

Thanks for buying local and supporting our small scale flower farm!
